Denis L. Anderson

Denis Anderson from CSIRO Entomology, was a key contributor along with Paul De Barro to the development of the Pollination biosecurity.

Early life

Denis Anderson was raised on a small farm near Temora (NSW) and attended Reefton and Temora Primary Schools. He attended Temora High School.

Tertiary education and early career

  • Completed BSc (Hons), Australian National University (ANU), (1981)
  • Completed PhD (Virology), Research School of Biological Sciences (RSBS, ANU), (1985), (Supervisor: Prof. Adrian J. Gibbs)
  • Visiting Fellow, RSBS, ANU (1985-92)
  • Post Doctoral research scientist, Division of Scientific and Industrial Industrial Research, Auckland, New Zealand (1985-89)
    • Leader of bee research which determined (a) the cause of half moon disorder, (b) the health status of NZ and other regional honeybees, and (c) the effects of microbial pathogens on honeybee pollinators)

Career highlights at other organisations

  • Leader of research that improved the heath of honeybees of, and the sustainability of the beekeeping industry in, the United Arab Emirates (UAE)
  • Established Bees Downunder Pty Ltd to raise funds to support strategic research on bee health.
