CSIRO Chief Executive welcomes new chair

The Chief Executive of CSIRO, Dr Geoff Garrett, said today he and his team warmly welcomed the appointment of Dr John Stocker, AO, as the new chair of CSIRO.  The appointment was announced this afternoon by the Minister for Education, Science and Training, The Hon Julie Bishop.

“John has a terrific track record with CSIRO, where he was CEO from 1990-1995. He comes to the appointment with an in-depth knowledge of CSIRO, and a distinguished career in science and business. He is a wonderful ambassador for science, and for CSIRO, with strong business experience and acumen,” Dr Garrett said.
 
“We currently have a great Board of CSIRO and his chairmanship will be vital in helping the organisation to continue to make the most of working on the challenges facing Australia in key priority areas such as energy, water, climate change, preventive health and helping develop Australia’s competitive industries.”
