Eureka! Cognitive scientist wins prize for leadership in science

CSIRO’s Chief Executive Dr Geoff Garrett has congratulated Professor Max Coltheart of Macquarie University for winning the 2007 CSIRO Eureka Prize for Leadership in Science.

“This Eureka Prize recognises the enormous value of Dr Coltheart’s leadership and influence in the field of cognitive science,” Dr Garrett said.

Professor Coltheart is one of the world’s leading cognitive scientists with an unparalleled range and volume of publications, achievements and honours.

Over the past 40 years, Professor Coltheart has demonstrated high quality scientific leadership and innovation, making novel connections between disciplines, mobilising talent and cultivating passion and commitment.

The Australian Museum Eureka Prizes are Australia’s premier award scheme for outstanding science. Presented annually by the Australian Museum, the prizes reward excellence in the fields of research and innovation, science leadership, school science, and science journalism and communication.

The CSIRO Eureka Prize for Leadership in Science is awarded to an Australian individual who has demonstrated an outstanding role and impact in science leadership.

The Australian Museum Eureka Prize winners will be announced this evening at the Australian Museum Eureka Prizes Award Dinner in Sydney (Tuesday 21 August).
