Neville Fletcher was Director of the Institute of Physical Sciences from 1983 to 1987, then Chief Research Scientist at CSIRO until 1995. He was elected fellow of the Australian Academy of Science (1976) and of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. He was awarded in 1993 the Thomas Ranken Lyle Medal.
