Rockets and razor sharp nails

By June 8th, 2006

CSIRO’s Double Helix Science Club is inviting Canberra kids to take part in amazing demonstrations and scientific experiments, with fuming liquid nitrogen, piercingly sharp nails and exploding film canisters on offer.

The free 30 minute shows will be held at Westfield Belconnen tomorrow (June 9) at 6pm and 7pm.

Graham Walker from CSIRO Education says the shows are a great way to teach kids about science.

“As both a scientist and a passionate showoff, there’s nothing cooler than seeing the look on someone’s face when they have that ‘Eureka moment’ and understand how the world works through science.”

”The students discover how much fun science can be, and they learn so much at the same time.”

“Volunteers will ride on the infamous yet terribly funky Board of Boogie, see what happens when things are dropped into liquid nitrogen at a shivering -196 degrees, sit upon the fearsome 500 nails of the Chair of Bottom-Tear and much more, all while discovering the fun of science,” Mr Walker said.
