Science to inspire Central QLD students

By May 7th, 2008

Central Queensland secondary school students will gain valuable insights into the crucial role agricultural science plays in the region when they visit CSIRO Livestock Industries’ Rendel Laboratory in Rockhampton this Thursday and Friday (8 & 9 May, 2008).

Around 170 secondary school science and agricultural science students will participate in the third annual “CSIRO Science Discovery Days”. The two days of activities aims to encourage young people to make positive choices about pursuing science careers.

According to CSIRO organiser, Dr Nigel Tomkins, as well as raising awareness of the career opportunities in science, the Science Discovery Days provide an important link between school science programs and real-life applications.

“The two days will not only showcase our cutting-edge research in the labs, but also give students a great opportunity to find out what being a scientist or technician is all about,”
says Dr Tomkins – a Research Scientist with CSIRO Livestock Industries.”
